Blizzard formally announces Overwatch League and the 7 founding teams

 

On July 12th (PDT), Activision Blizzard announced the seven founding teams and their franchise locations. With the announcement, Overwatch League will now be the first major global professional esports league to operate based on individual cities.


The cities participating in Overwatch League is Boston, Los Angeles, Miami-Orlando and San Francisco in United States; Shanghai in China and Seoul in Korea. Also, the following list of owners will represent the teams in each cities:


Boston, MA: Robert Kraft, Chairman/CEO of Kraft Group and New England Patriots
New York City, NY: Jeff Wilpon, COO of Mets and Co-Founder/Senior Partner of Sterling VC
Los Angeles, CA: Noah Whinston, CEO of Immortals
Miami-Orlando, FL: Ben Spoont, CEO/Co-founder of Misfits Gaming
San Francisco, CA: Chairman/Co-owner of NRG Esprots, Andy Miller
Shanghai, China: NetEase Inc.
Seoul, Korea: Kevin Chou, Co-founder of Kabam


Overwatch League is slated to launch within this year, and all teams are expected to have a venue that can host a league match. In the meantime, the first season of league will take place in a designated venue located in Los Angeles, and the matches will take place in Thursday, Friday and Saturday.


Match schedule and ticket information will be announced later.
