[Statistics] 14% of Games Played In Bronze Have AFK Players

Playing Riot’s ‘League of Legends’, I had lots of fun moments. But I also had just as many frustrating ones as well. There were times where I just had to hold in my frustration and move on. But sometimes, the situation isn’t as easy to make peace with. No matter the cause, when a player leaves a match, the entire experience of the game becomes completely ruined.

After going through this event many times, I suddenly wondered “How often do AFKs actually happen?” And for that matter “Which server, in general, has the most AFK players?” As a player of both the KR and NA servers, I usually meet an AFK player in 1 out of 20 ranked games. What is it like in NA or EUW? On a site called ‘League of Graphs’, I found a very interesting section. It had the exact data that I was looking for.

As expected, the higher the tier went, the lower the AFK rates were, and as one would expect, the lower tiers had the highest AFK rates. According to the shown data, 14% of games that are played in bronze have an AFK player. That means that statistically, 1 out of every 7 games I play will have an AFK player, and sometimes even multiple AFK players.

If we separate the data according to regions, Brazil has the highest rate of AFK players in their games. If you are a bronze player enjoying the game in the BR server, you will most likely run into an AFK player in 1 out of every 5 games you play. 19.4% of bronze games in Brazil have AFK players in them.

However, we can’t just simply imply that Brazil players, in general, enjoy going AFK. There could be outages and other factors that contribute to players being unable to play the game. In most unintentional cases, internet issues tend to be the biggest factor. Korea, on the other hand, is known to have well-established servers, with an AFK rate of only 4%.

Now, let’s take a look at the North American server. At only 7.3%, NA’s AFK rate is actually lower than average. However, it is still clear that bronze has the highest amount of AFK players. If you are ranked bronze in the NA server, you would be expected to meet an AFK player in 1 out of every 10 games. That AFK player could even be you.

The rates are similar in ‘Flex Queue’ as well, but remember that these are all simple statistics, and you may have a different experience in your ranked games. Also remember that no matter which server you play in, the AFK rate goes down as you climb the ranks. So if you constantly leave your games and AFK due to your teammate’s “bad” performance, the reason for you being stuck in that tier is most likely yourself.

And one more thing, please do not tease Mundo or Yasuo players.
