Kyoto Animation is producing an animated film adaptation of 'Ending Credits Running on the Sea.'

On the 11th, the studio announced the adaptation on its official website, accompanied by a short teaser trailer. The film will be directed by Taichi Ishidate, known for his work on 'Violet Evergarden.'

The original manga, 'Ending Credits Running on the Sea' by John Tarachine, was serialized from 2020 to 2025 and topped the female category of the 'Kono Manga ga Sugoi!' rankings in 2022. The story follows 65-year-old Umiko, who, after meeting an art student named Kai, enrolls in a university film department to pursue her dream of making movies.

Director Taichi Ishidate stated, "I want to create a film that allows the audience to feel the same sense of warmth I experienced when I first read the original work. I will pour all my efforts into making this a gentle film that captures the effort, soul, pride, and nobility of those who face their challenges head-on."

Original author John Tarachine shared their thoughts, saying, "It feels like a dream that Kyoto Animation has decided to adapt this into a film. It is deeply moving to see Umiko herself reflected on the screen she once admired."

The poster released alongside the announcement shows the protagonist, Umiko, pointing a camera toward the sea. A special illustration by the original author, John Tarachine, was also unveiled.

Kyoto Animation's new film, 'Ending Credits Running on the Sea,' is scheduled for release in 2027.
