League of Legends Dev Update Reveals ARAM: Mayhem Mode, Account Crackdowns, and Arcane Celebration

Riot Games unveiled a wave of new content and system updates for League of Legends in its latest Dev Update video, featuring insights from developers Andrei “Meddler” van Roon, Paul "Pabro" Bellezza, Eduardo “Riot Cadmus” Cortejoso, Ezra “Riot Phlox” Lynn, Matt “Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison, and Drew “justacapybara” Levin. The update highlights new gameplay features, anti-cheat initiatives, and returning content as the game approaches the League of Legends World Championship in Beijing on Oct. 14.

One of the major announcements is ARAM: Mayhem, a new limited-time mode debuting in Season 3 Act 2. The mode brings Arena-style Augments to the traditional 5v5 ARAM format, adding a layer of unpredictability and strategy to the classic brawls. ARAM: Mayhem will operate in its own queue, giving players the option to jump between the standard and experimental modes. The update also confirmed that Butcher’s Bridge and Koeshin’s Crossing will become permanent ARAM maps, with ongoing performance improvements planned for both.

Riot Targets Botting, Enhances Player Privacy

Riot’s development team is intensifying efforts to combat botting, smurfing, and account selling. Since Patch 25.18, Riot has banned 400,000 purchased ranked accounts, 1.5 million botted and sold accounts, and another 2.5 million awaiting sale. Beginning with Patch 25.23, penalties will extend across all accounts linked to the same owner, using a mix of Vanguard, behavioral, and account data. Regions with verified ID systems, like Korea, will continue to follow their own local regulations.

Streamer mode will also receive a major overhaul in Patch 25.20, introducing three privacy options: “Hide Other Names,” “Hide My Name,” and “Hide My Everything,” designed to give content creators greater control over personal information.

In celebration of Arcane’s first anniversary, all related skins will return in Patch 25.23, including visual upgrades to Arcane Fractured Jinx. Returning players will receive the updates for free. Additional updates include full champion access in the Practice Tool, the return of the Blue Essence Emporium, and the comeback of “Your Shop” in Patch 25.24.

The next Dev Update is expected in late November or early December, offering a look ahead to the start of 2026.
