Netmarble has launched The King of Fighters AFK, a new idle RPG based on SNK’s long-running fighting game franchise. The game is now available globally for Android and iOS devices. Players who log in during the launch period can claim rewards, including up to 3,000 Summoning Tokens and 210,000 Rubies, as well as a guaranteed Legendary-grade fighter on their first summon.

The title reimagines familiar characters from the King of Fighters series in pixel art, inspired by the visuals of The King of Fighters R-2 on the Neo Geo Pocket Color. Gameplay centers on strategic 5v5 battles, with players able to build teams from a roster of fighters, formations and synergies.

At launch, the game includes 114 fighters — 36 of them Legendary — alongside pets and multiple progression systems. Players can advance through 12,600 stages and access 10 dungeon types offering in-game resources. Competitive and cooperative modes are also featured, with more content planned as part of Netmarble’s live service support.

Special in-game events accompany the release, including a seven-day check-in campaign granting daily rewards and a Legendary Fighter Summon Ticket on the final day. A Kyo Kusanagi pick-up event increases chances to unlock the fighter in his King of Fighters ’99 appearance, while a Fury Synergy summon event runs until Sept. 17. Additional promotions allow players to obtain pets and supporters.

The King of Fighters franchise has been a staple of fighting games since the 1990s, with more than 15 titles released to date. Known for its large cast and team-based combat, the series has maintained a dedicated global fan base.
