[MSI] SKT T1 Head Coach cCarter: "FW is a formidable opponent, but we won't lose this time"

2017 LCK Spring champions SKT will be participating in the Mid-Season Invitational in Brazil as the Korean representative. SKT Head Coach Byeong-hoon “cCarter” Choi, who is preparing to attend the event, revealed the mindset going into MSI in a phone call with Inven.

When asked about the practice process and the conditions of the players, cCarter said, "We didn’t practice very hard.” He continued, "Although the patch version is different than when we were preparing for the LCK finals, there’s no big difference game-wise. We’ve had our fair share of practice back then, so we prepared for the MSI as if we were catching our breath.” He added, “We’ve spent more time with the coaching staff to study and think about the matches already took place so far in the event.”

Currently, MSI is in Round 2 after finishing Round 1 of the Play-In stage. Regarding Round 1 of Play-In Stage cCarter said, "Overall, I think the level of play is higher than the previous wild card qualifiers. It was a treat to watch." He picked SEA representative Gigabyte Marines as the most memorable team by explaining, "They’re a better team than we expected or remembered. They showed a lot of good play. Despite losing to TSM, I’m tempted to say they’ll survive the elimination match and advance to Group Stage."

cCarter also revealed which teams he’s actively looking out for. As for the Chinese team that was mentioned in the LCK finals post-match interview, he told Inven that, "I’m looking out for Team WE whose coaching staff is all Korean." Currently, Coaches Nam-hoon “HooN” Kim and Sung-young "Homme" Yoon lead Team WE. cCarter added, "If you look at the performance and the momentum, I’m also concerned about the Flash Wolves as they have consistently defeated Koreans teams including ourselves. That said, I don’t think we’ll lose to them."

Lastly, cCarter concluded the phone call by expressing the mindset for the MSI by saying, "This is our third time playing at MSI, and the previous two times were both tough in terms of schedule and gameplay. I don’t think this time will be any different because this is where champions from each region come to compete. We'll learn a lot from the event. MSI is not a bonus stage before the summer season, and we'll work hard to win the MSI to make the best use of our chance."
