After defeating Team Liquid on day 2 of week 6 in the 2022 LCS Spring Split to secure sole possession of 1st place in the standings, Cloud9 have punched their ticket to the post-season. At 11-2, Cloud9 is the first team to qualify for the 2022 LCS Spring Playoffs.

The last time Cloud9 played against Team Liquid was in the second week of the 2022 LCS Spring Split. Team Liquid was able to win in that matchup, even with TLA support Bill "Eyla" Nguyen substituting in for the LCS roster while Jo "CoreJJ" Yong-in resolved final issues in the process of acquiring his green card, but even with CoreJJ in the lineup, TL was unable to stop C9 from splitting the head-to-head record between the two teams in the LCS Spring Split.

The day before the match between C9 and TL, CoreJJ told Inven Global that in terms of his team's schedule, he was far more concerned about Evil Geniuses than he was C9:

"Honestly, based on our scrim experience so far, I was more worried about EG than C9. However, C9 is actually doing really well on stage, so I'm actually excited to beat them." TL made quick work of EG, but but was soundly beaten by Cloud9 the following day. In defeating TL, Cloud9 AD carry Kim "Berserker" Min-cheol made good on his promise from his most recent interview with Inven Global, which happened right after Cloud9 lost to Team Liquid in week 2 of the 2022 LCS Spring Split.

"I guarantee a win next time I meet [Team Liquid AD carry Steven "] Hans sama ["Liv]," Berserker told Inven Global triumphantly after C9's loss to TL earlier this spring.

Cloud9 is the only team in the 2022 LCS Spring Split to qualify for the post-season thus far, but with defeated Team Liquid only one game behind at 10-3 in sole possession of 2nd place, it is extremely likely that the next time these two teams will meet will be in the LCS Spring Playoffs, which kick off next month.
