According to an announcement on MAD Lions’ social media today, the team has extended the contracts of all four members of their coaching staff.  All members of MAD's coaching staff had their contracts extended through 2023 sans assistant coach Christophe “Kaas” van Oudheusden, who extended only through 2022.

Coaches James "Mac" MacCormack and Patrick "Pad" Suckow-Breum have extended their contracts to the end of 2023, while analyst Carlos "Aagie" Carpio Cuenca has done the same. MAD Lions has now secured most of the staff present during the team’s most successful season in the LEC.

Mac, in particular, has been a long-time member of the team — originally an important part of Splyce in 2018, before being promoted to Head Coach last year. He has twice won the coach of the split award, and is currently up for Esports Coach of the Year at the Esports Awards this month.

“I’m thrilled to continue working with MAD Lions alongside such a talented group of coaching staff. I consider myself extremely lucky to have worked with everyone inside the organization, from players, to support staff, to upper management – I’m truly grateful for our journey together over the past two years,” said Mac.

“Looking ahead, we strive to make our fans and community proud by continuing to grow and thrive within the LEC, and in doing so, deliver unforgettable experiences and moments that have become synonymous with MAD Lions.”

Throughout the year, MAD Lions were noted for their strong macro play and teamfighting. The team dominated in both Splits of the LEC in 2021 — placing first in the playoffs for both. Internationally, the team impressed at the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational, with a run to the semifinals seeing them lose a five game series to DWG KIA.

At the 2021 League of Legends World Championship, MAD Lions had a comparatively disappointing result, though the most successful of any European team. There they made it to the quarterfinals before again losing to DWG KIA in a three game sweep.
