T1 Faker: "Before, I would never have thought I’d be facing kkOma in the finals... I want to win no matter what."

On August 22, in the 2021 LCK Summer Split playoffs round 2, T1 defeated Gen.G 3-1 and advanced to the finals. Through the win, they secured a spot at the 2021 LoL World Championship. T1 will face DWG KIA for the championship on August 28. After the match, Son “Stardust” Seok-hee and Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok joined the press room to talk to the media.

How do you feel about reaching the finals?

Stardust: All I can say is that I’m happy. Although I had some doubts, I’m relieved that the result is good and I’m thankful to the players for doing so well.

Faker: I thought today’s match will be the biggest obstacle. I’m relieved that we overcame this obstacle well. I’ll do my best in the finals.

After losing game 1, how was the feedback?

Stardust: We discussed what went wrong in the first game immediately after the game was over, and prepared the next game based on that. As I saw the players overcome the problems right away, I thought they were really great.

(To Faker) If you win in the finals, it’ll be your 10th LCK championship. It goes the same for kkOma. What do you think about this?

Faker: Before, I would never have thought I’d be facing kkOma in the finals. The day is here now, so I really need to prepare well. I want to win no matter what.

Which moment was the most memorable today?

Faker: There aren’t any plays that were particularly memorable today. I remember having an easy mind at the end since we had both the Baron and Elder buffs.

You’ll be meeting DWG KIA. What will you focus on?

Stardust: DWG KIA is a team we need to beat. I have some worries but I think we could win like we did today if we prepare well.

Faker: I thought today’s match will be more difficult. Since we got through today well, I think I’ll be able to prepare more comfortably for our finals against DWG KIA. If we prepare well, I don’t think it’ll be too difficult.

Did you think Gen.G will be harder to face than DWG KIA?

Faker: Rather than that, I thought it’ll be harder to maintain my best form in today’s match against Gen.G. There were many plays that were regretful for me today. Also, there wasn’t that much time to prepare for today’s match because of the schedule. We’ll have a week to prepare for the finals now.

How do you feel reaching Worlds after missing last year?

Faker: Early in the summer, we weren’t sure if we would be able to make it to Worlds. I think we did well since we finally locked in a spot. It feels that it’s been a long time since I went to Worlds last. I want to get good results at Worlds.

Stardust: I’ve been to Worlds once, when I was a coach in NA. It doesn’t feel that new. As much as we have the finals in front of us, I think we should focus on that first. I’ll think of Worlds after that.

How do you think the finals will go? What’s the main point of the match?

Stardust: If we win game 1, I think we’ll win 3-0. If we lose the first game, I’m not sure. In that case, we’ll probably win 3-2.

Faker: I think it’ll be 3-1. I think my role is the most important. Among the games, the first game is the most important as it affects all the remaining games.

Any last comments?

Stardust: It wasn’t easy getting here. I’m really happy that we’re going to the finals. I’ll prepare well so that we do well at the finals next week. I’d like to thank all the players for doing so well and Moment for the great drafts.

Faker: I have a lot of regrets today as my performance wasn’t that good. I believe I could show a better performance in the next match. It’s been a while since I’ve been in the finals, so I want to show my best.
