The Popularity of Esports Among Students

Maybe you’ve thought about why esports is becoming popular among students from all over the world. We’ve prepared for you six reasons why it is so. Maybe some of them will shock you, or you’ll want to join the esports community and take up a job as a professional video game player. So let’s dive in!

Turning a Hobby Into a Job

What is better than doing what you like? Yes, earning money on what you like to do. We start with the example: as you know, fans of writing can earn money on essay writing help in different services, write paper for me, for instance. They help other students to get high scores for academic papers and make a profit on their hobby.

The same situation is with esports too. A new generation of students like to spend their time playing games, and now they have the opportunity to convert their gaming experience into money by joining an esports team.

Developing Your Thinking

There are many professions that require you to use your brain to the fullest. As a result, they develop your thinking.

One of such professions is Big Data analyst, a popular career in 2021. But playing video games, you’re a lot like such an analyst. This is because video games teach you to:

  • process large amounts of data;
  • memorize tons of information;
  • think quickly and make decisions in seconds;
  • be multitasking because you should look at lots of parameters on your screen, e. g. XP, and monitor your enemies’ and teammates’ locations.

Likewise, video games broaden your horizons. As a result, you become a well-educated person.

Playing Games Whenever and Everywhere

The main reason why esports is so popular among students is the opportunity to play games everywhere and whenever. If you have a PC, it’s possible to break into video games and consider your passion for them as your future career. In addition, some games such as Hearthstone or Teamfight Tactics require only mobile phones; therefore, you can do esports in university or while you’re waiting in line.

Therefore, esports is becoming popular because it doesn’t have a lot of requirements. For example, it should be a spacious field for playing soccer. Or you can’t deal without equipment in fencing. Moreover, by choosing cyber games, you make a purchase only once when buying a PC.

Saving Your Health

One of the most important things that people care about in 2021 is their health due to the Coronavirus. As you can train while being at home, you don’t risk your health. It’s especially a good thing when you have low immunity or even are sick with Covid. You don’t spread this virus and avoid infecting other people.

We could go back to 2020 when Coronavirus came. As you know, a lot of championships, such as the World Europe Championship 2020, were called off due to the pandemic. But esports tournaments were underway; in addition, teams didn’t have to gather in one place. In some tournaments, it was allowed to play at home.

Moving From Team to Team

Esports is a niche where you can move from team to team without any hindrance. For example, it’s a common situation when gamers from Australia and Oceania move to European or American teams because Australia and Oceania is a region with a low ping. As a result, users can’t train as fruitfully as their competitors in other regions do.

Esports community met a new LoL team on the MCI 2021 — Pentanet.GG, but it was too weak; as a result, this team left the MSI at the second team round. Of course, Australia and Oceania have some LoL teams, but they participate only in local tournaments and don’t think about entering the international arena.

Also, it’s okay when teammates live in different countries. For instance, guys from Team Secret, one of the top Dota 2 teams, come from Poland, Sweden, Finland, Jordan, and Estonia. Consequently, esports is a good opportunity to make friends from different countries.

Having Game Diversity

You may get shocked, but there are tons of games in esports. You can choose your favorite one and enjoy playing it. As you can move from one team to another, it’s possible to find an esports team that plays your favorite game even if it isn’t popular.

The Bottom Line

As you see, students get a lot of positive emotions when choosing an esports career. Even local tournaments can make them happier because they communicate with like-minded teammates and earn money on their hobbies. Operating on the promise that students really like to spend their time playing video games, it’s nothing to say that esports will become extremely popular in the future.
