G2 Esports AD carry Martin "Rekkles" Larrson has been named Most Valuable Player for the 2021 League of Legends European Championship Series Spring Split. This is the fourth time Rekkles has won the award, the most of any player in the history of competitive European League of Legends.

Rekkles was initially supposed to be presented with the award before the start of G2's series against Rogue in the LEC Spring Playoffs, but road closures delayed the announcement and Rekkles' interview regarding winning the award with Laure Valée until after the match.

This made the interview and the award itself a tad bittersweet for Rekkles, as he admitted to Valée, due to G2's surprising loss and elimination at the hands of Rogue. This is the first time G2 has missed a European post-season final since 2018, and the first final without at least one of G2 or Fnatic.

It's hard to argue Rekkles didn't deserve the 2021 LEC Spring Split MVP award. Rekkles joined G2 Esports after spending close to his entire career with Fnatic to fill the shoes of Luka "Perkz" Perković, who was shipped to Cloud9 after swapping back to his original role of mid lane.

And under all that pressure, Rekkles delivered. His best-in-class 12.6 KDA dwarfed that of the second best KDA — Rogue's Steven "Hans sama" Liv finished with 6.3 — and he led the league in deaths (least) and assists (most). His 101 kills was second in the league only to Hans sama's 103.

Rekkles' 9.3 CSPM was the third highest in the league, and despite reaching the 10 minute mark on average at a deficit, his free-farming allows him to be the main damage dealer for G2 Esports come mid game. Rekkles captured 24.9% of G2 Esports' damage share and led all AD carries in damage per minute at 579.
