Diablo II: Resurrected peaks as most viewed game on Twitch during day 1 of technical alpha

The single-player technical alpha for Diablo II: Resurrected launched on the morning of April 8, 2021, and in mere hours of the same day, the anticipated remastering of the Blizzard Entertainment's iconic MMO RPG captured the top viewership spot of Twitch viewership. A screenshot by esports consultant Rod "Slasher" Breslau showed the Twitch viewership of Diablo II: Resurrected as high as 356,000 mere hours after the launch of the technical alpha.

A potential factor of this high viewership, despite the alpha only being single-player at this time, could be the limited access in which Blizzard is rolling out in waves throughout the alpha. The selection of players is limited and random, and the brief technical alpha concludes on Monday.

A variety of streamers and content creators have been provided access to the technical alpha for Diablo II: Resurrected, including Fextralife and Alan "alanzoka" Ferreira, whose viewership numbers have remained well into five figures throughout their respective streams. Discord influencer and streamer Saqib "LIRIK" Ali Zahid also stands out amongst the top Twitch channels streaming the technical alpha of Diablo II: Resurrected.

Throughout the first few hours of the Diablo II: Resurrected technical alpha, the game has already been praised for retaining the authenticity of the original Diablo II, and while only three classes and a handful of quests are available, reception surrounding the technical alpha has been overwhelmingly positive. Players can also put visual settings on 'Legacy Mode' which returns the graphics to that of  Diablo II, but nearly every streamer has been streaming updated visuals.

While the technical alpha is brief and only features single-player gameplay, Blizzard has already confirmed that a multiplayer test will be happening later in the year. Given the immediate popularity of Diablo II: Resurrected on the first day of the technical alpha, the increased access and interactivity of the multiplayer test should bring the game's viewership to even greater heights before its official release, which is scheduled for later this year at an unconfirmed date.
