The 2020 League of Legends World Championship was originally scheduled to take place in the Pudong District of Shanghai, and earlier this week, it was confirmed that the event would take place in China in October with no delays or cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On May 11, the China Digital Entertainment Expo & Conference hosted a press conference in Shanghai. During the conference,  Vice Director of Shanghai Pudong District PropagandaWei Huang announced that Worlds 2020 will not be delayed or canceled, and will kick off in the Shanghai Pudong district in October.

Riot Games originally first announced Shanghai as the location for the 2020 World Championship Finals immediately after the conclusion of the 2019 World Championship Finals, which took place in Paris, France.

The last LoL World Championship held in China was in 2017, and was hosted across four cities: Wuhan, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Beijing. In the Finals, #3 LCK seed Samsung Galaxy swept #2 LCK seed SK Telecom T1 in front a massive crowd in Beijing, marking the first time the legendary Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok had ever attended a World Championship without winning the Final.
