AF Kiin: "We felt like we couldn’t win 2-0 because of our bad performance, so we’re not very happy with our performance."

On the 21st (KST), Afreeca Freecs took down SANDBOX Gaming with a set score of 2-1 in Week 3 of the 2020 LCK Spring. Despite the win over SANDBOX and the first pentakill of the season achieved by the bot laner of Afreeca, Jin “Mystic” Seong-jun, the grim faces on the Afreeca players showed that they weren’t satisfied with tonight’s performance.

The captain and the top laner for Afreeca, Kim “Kiin” Gi-in, joined Inven Global to talk about tonight’s victory, having a PC bang in his name newly opened, and his thoughts on the team’s recent performance.

From the interview earlier, it looks as if everyone isn’t satisfied with their performance tonight.

We felt like we couldn’t win 2-0 because of our bad performance, so we’re not very happy with our performance.

Judging by the expression on your face, it’s very obvious that you’re disappointed.

No, I always have this expression on my face.

Afreeca played just about half of the matches in Round 1. What are your thoughts on the team’s standings?

Although our standings may give off the impression that we’re doing well, we’re nowhere near satisfied with how we’re performing, I feel like we can drop down any time, so we need to practice hard.

What do you think the team’s problems are that need to be fixed?

At the moment, I don’t think that we’re making plays that’s similar to when we were playing well, so I don’t think we’re performing great. We need to find these problems and solve them.

I believe that this is a question that you’re suited to answer. Afreeca keeps getting Ornn, so why do you think Ornn’s not being banned?

Ornn’s a good champion not because of his laning phase, but because he can upgrade his teammates’ items and his good teamfighting. I think that because he can be dealt with during laning phase, he keeps getting through during bans.

Are there champions that have a higher priority in bans?

The types of champions that players tend to ban are those that are strong in lane and can play aggressively.

Does this mean that Afreeca will pick Ornn every time he’s open?

To be honest, I’m not sure, as drafts are mostly done by the coaching staff.

You have a PC bang (LAN Cafe) in your name, built by Afreeca. An organization doesn’t usually build something of that caliber to a player that would leave the team one day. Does this mean that you’ll be with Afreeca for a very long time?

I’m signed for 3 years, and because trust is building between me and the organization, I think that our CEO thought of me in a very good light, so I’m grateful that he’s made a decision that probably wasn’t easy to make.

What are your thoughts on the PC bang being in your name?

If you think about Lotte World (an amusement park), it's an awkward place for a PC Bang, so although it initially felt weird to see one by an amusement park, I now think it’s actually pretty fun.

Can you promote the ‘Kiin PC bang' to the fans?

Although I haven’t been to it that much, it's really nice, so please come visit! Thank you.

There are a lot of important matches left for Afreeca, Is there anything that you’d like to say to your teammates?

I just hope that they’ll play without any regrets. I want them to look back and say that we gave it our all and played to the fullest.

If you had to choose one teammate to praise, who would it be?

Instead of one, I’d pick the two junglers (Spirit and Dread). They’re competing with each other for the starting spot, and although it must be stressful, I think they’re both amazing for working so hard.

Lastly, can you please say a few words to your fans?

I think that the fans will feel the same as how we feel about our disappointing in-game performance, so we’ll work harder to put on our best performance. Please continue to support us.
