Riot Games released a developer update for Teamfight Tactics on Wednesday, February 19 to introduce Teamfight Tactics: Galaxies. TFT: Galaxies will take the place of Teamfight Tactics: Rise of the Elements next month. TFT Principle Game Designer Stephen 'Mortdog' Mortimer and Communications Strategist Blake 'Beernana' Edwards began the update by talking about the Elemental Hex system that was introduced as part of the seasonal update near the end of 2019.
The Riot duo explained that while the Elemental Hex system accomplished what its initial goal in making every game of TFT feel a bit different, it was not without its flaws. Elemental Hex will be cycled out with Rise of the Elements.
In TFT: Galaxies, games will be played with a standard set of rules, only sometimes, the game will take the players to an alternate galaxy with its own unique rules added to the game. For example, in the Neekoverse Galaxy, everyone starts with two Neeko’s Help items. New Galaxies will also be introduced as the season goes on, and the developers hope that the Galaxy mechanic will provide the variance of the Elemental Hex system within a clearer, more expansive experience.
If TFT: Galaxies is a success, games that transport players to different galaxies should see new, unique outcomes only possible due to the environment of each specific galaxy. In addition, due to the season continuing to unveil and integrate new galaxies as time passes should facilitate an adaptive meta as the limits of Teamfight Tactics are pushed in ways never seen before.
