Tanjiro Delivers Both Damage and Utility
Enduring with Unyielding, Supporting the Main DPS in Offense Comps
Tanjiro Kamado, introduced through the Demon Slayer collaboration, functions primarily as an Offensive Damage-Supporter. He is a hero who deals direct damage while supporting Offensive allies and inflicting Physical Vulnerability on enemies. While Zenitsu focuses on crowd control and executions, Tanjiro creates a momentum that allows allies to endure and launch attacks.
His core survival skill is Unyielding. Even after dying, he survives up to a set number of hits, and when an enemy dies, he can replenish his remaining hit count. Transparent World grants Pierce and Weakness Attack, but you should keep in mind that prior to 6th Transcendence, it only applies after Unyielding triggers.
Upon Awakening, his Burn application is enhanced, and Flame Dance Flash gains a skill cooldown reset upon killing an enemy. His Awakened Skill, Hinokami Kagura: Setting Sun, strikes a single target multiple times and can be triggered once more sequentially if it scores a kill. When upgraded, it also supports Offensive allies with Damage Nullification and delayed buffs, reinforcing both his DPS and support roles. In summary, Tanjiro holds his ground in Offense Comps via Unyielding, supporting allies while contributing Burn and supplemental firepower.

Main Stage is PvP, But Is He Usable in PvE Too?
Even if Not the Main DPS, Capable of Supporting Offensive Allies
In the Arena, Tanjiro is utilized as a Sub-DPS who supports Offensive allies. He pressures opponents with buff dispels and Burns while setting up follow-up attacks for teammates. Since his survival is extended if kills are made while in the Unyielding state, whether the team can consistently secure kills is crucial.
Honestly, summarizing the feedback from Adventurers so far, his performance feels somewhat ambiguous for an anime main protagonist. Some even evaluate Zenitsu slightly higher due to his superior burst damage, Shock, and Execution. However, calling Tanjiro's utility low would be unfair; his active skills feature Block Rate Reduction and buff dispels, while his passive offers Effect Hit Rate increases for allies, permanent Physical Vulnerability on enemies, and support via delayed buffs, giving him quite excellent capabilities as a stat totem.
I am currently using Tanjiro at 6th Transcendence. While results vary depending on the opponent and skill usage order, his durability backed by Unyielding can certainly be described as tenacious. He tends to survive until the very end in most battles. However, there are times when I feel his Awakened Skill is a bit disappointing. At the timing when Tanjiro's Awakened Skill activates, a buff dispel would be extremely useful, but the Awakened Skill delivers single-target enemy damage along with delayed buffs and overall damage support to Offensive allies. While this is helpful, there are certainly battles where using the Awakened Skill actually turns out to be a trap.
For new and returning players, he appears sufficiently usable in PvE as well. Including the base copy provided through the event and subsequent Transcendence levels, even at low Transcendence he can adequately fulfill totem and Sub-DPS roles in Adventure, Tower of Infinity, and Tower of Trials. However, he does not perform at the level of a dedicated PvE specialist used in Raids or Castle Rush, so his viability should be viewed as an option during periods when your hero pool is limited.

Deployed as a Starter Alongside Zenitsu
Positioned alongside Sunran, Zenitsu, Eileene, Hayeon, and Others
If running both collaboration heroes together, a composition of Sunran, Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Eileene, and Hayeon can be considered for Arena and Advanced Arena. In this setup, Tanjiro handles Offensive support, Zenitsu and Eileene target crowd control, and Sunran delivers the main firepower. Since Hayeon possesses excellent utility, she is combined into the Offense Comp.
Even if you lack Zenitsu, there is no need to give up on using Tanjiro. Without Zenitsu, Karl Heron serves as the most standard replacement. Conversely, if you lack Tanjiro, Orca is a good candidate. Since Orca and Tanjiro share the same passive buff for ally Effect Hit Rate, you must choose between the two.
In Total War, team compositions shift slightly. Because Hayeon is usually placed in Defense Comps, an Offense hero must be fielded to replace her slot. Karl Heron is the most popular choice. He possesses outstanding ability to disrupt opponents while supporting allies, and can create unexpected turnarounds when Shock triggers. In particular, his permanent passives increasing Physical Damage and Effect Resist make him a valuable option.

Assassin Set is the Standard Equipment Choice
At 6th Transcendence, Equipment Gearing Becomes Easier
For Tanjiro's equipment, the Assassin set is generally selected. When Transparent World triggers, it secures 100% Weakness Attack Rate, meaning there is no strict need to use the Tracker set. Of course, if he is not at 6th Transcendence where Transparent World becomes permanent, other Offensive sets are acceptable, but utilizing Assassin is still advantageous for Crit builds.
For substats/options, 2 Crit Damage stats on weapons and 2 All Attack Power stats on armor work well. While achieving 100% Crit Rate might sound burdensome, having Zenitsu grants a passive 25% Crit Rate buff, making it surprisingly easy to hit 100% Crit Rate even while equipping only Crit Damage weapons. If possible, paying attention to Speed Attack to secure the first strike in Offense Comp mirror matches is recommended, but if that is difficult, properly gearing for Crit Rate and Crit Damage alone allows him to pull his weight.
Additionally, personal preferences vary regarding Effect Resist stats. Because being rendered helpless due to a lack of Effect Resist occurs quite frequently in PvP, some Adventurers opt for Effect Resist on armor options or stack as much Effect Resist as possible via substats. If you prioritize raw firepower, go with All Attack Power % on armor; if you prefer smoother operation, look into Effect Resist.
We have examined Tanjiro, who made his debut in Seven Knights Re:Birth alongside the collaboration. Since Tanjiro maintains a permanent 100% Weakness Attack Rate at 6th Transcendence, utilizing him at 6th Transcendence is highly recommended if possible. Considering that he is a collaboration hero, the value of reaching 6th Transcendence is even higher. However, if resources are tight, prioritizing 6th Transcendence for Zenitsu first is recommended. While evaluations may shift as further testing takes place, Zenitsu currently receives slightly higher praise. The Demon Slayer Corps Wish Summon runs for a more generous duration compared to standard pickup banners, so aim for as many Transcendence levels as your situation permits.
