The first-person psychological survival horror game 'Ritual Tides', set on an isolated British island, has been revealed.
Vertpaint showcased a new trailer for 'Ritual Tides' on the 27th at the Gamescom 2026 Future Games Show (FGS). The game is set on 'Hortus', an island that does not appear on any map and sees no passing ships.
The player awakens on the island's shore with no memory of who they are or how they arrived. A man named 'Malcolm' approaches to offer help, but the island is home to a cult that preaches devotion and salvation toward an entity called 'Mother Hortus'. Hints are given that the creatures the player encounters were not originally monsters, with the narrative slowly unfolding as every answer found leads to even harder questions.
Survival mechanics are also emphasized. Ammunition is scarce, requiring careful deliberation with every shot, and climbing demands using both hands to find the next hold. Crossing narrow planks requires a sense of balance, a task that becomes even more difficult when being pursued. While combat exists, it does not make the player powerful, and firearms are not always a reliable option.
The developer stated that every flower, wall, tree, and stretch of coastline on the island was captured on-site across the moorlands of England and Scotland and brought to life through scans. They explained that every corner of the island was manually reconstructed based on close-up reference photographs of tree bark, rocks, moss, and dirt.
'Ritual Tides' is scheduled to release on PC, though the exact release date has not yet been announced.
