Jang Yoon-chul advanced to the quarterfinals of the Google Play ASL Season 21 on the 14th, finishing first in Group B at the Freec Up Studio in Samseong-dong, Seoul. In his first match, he easily defeated Lim Jin-mook, whom he had personally selected as his opponent, and in the winner's match, he secured a 2-1 victory after a fierce battle against Zerg specialist Jo Il-jang.

In the first match between Jang and Lim, Lim prepared a standard Factory-Double build. Jang opted for a proxy Gateway followed by a Zealot and Dragoon harass. Lim attempted to defend with Marines and Vultures, but a delayed Bunker construction led to significant early damage. With the game already tilted in his favor, Lim made a final attempt with a Marine-Tank push, which was easily repelled, sending Jang to the winner's match.
In the following second match, Jung Yoon-jong started with a Zealot-Double build, placing his Gateway at the natural expansion entrance. Jo Il-jang countered by using Zerglings to overwhelm the Zealots, then broke through the Photon Cannon line with a Hydralisk rush to claim an easy victory.
In the first set of the winner's match between Jang and Jo, both players had standard openings, but Jo secured a quick victory with a fast Hydralisk harass, similar to his previous game. In the second set, Jang focused on massing Corsairs while preparing Speed-Zealots. Jo countered with Mutalisks and Scourges, but they were neutralized by the Corsairs.
As the game transitioned into a long macro battle with both players expanding, Jang weathered a shaky period, successfully denied his opponent's gas expansion, and dealt heavy damage to Jo's main base with a Dark Templar drop. He then utilized a high-tier composition of Archons, High Templars, and Reavers to defeat Jo and tie the series 1-1.
In the third set, Jo prepared a Hydralisk attack, just as he had in the first set. Jang, anticipating this, quickly increased his Cannon count and successfully defended. Despite the Protoss holding an advantage after stopping the Hydralisks, Jo quickly expanded his drone count and used a massive wave of Hydralisks and Lurkers to take control of the high ground, bringing the game back to an even state.
However, Jang diverted Jo's attention by sending Zealots through a side path near the natural expansion. He then used a large force of Dragoons and High Templars to break through the high ground at his own third base, defeating Jo 2-1 to advance to the quarterfinals as the group winner.
