Global esports organization G2 Esports brought policymakers and industry leaders together in Berlin on Tuesday for a wide-ranging discussion on the future of Germany’s esports and gaming ecosystem. The event, held at G2’s headquarters, focused on strengthening the country’s position as a competitive hub for digital innovation and professional gaming.
Moderated by G2 chief operating officer Sabrina Ratih, the panel included Franziska Giffey, Berlin’s Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises; Alban Dechelotte, CEO of G2; FIFA World Champion and content creator Mo Auba; and Esports Player Foundation managing director Julius Althof.
The panel highlighted Germany’s ongoing efforts to expand its digital infrastructure—illustrated by initiatives such as the House of Games project, supported by Giffey—and explored opportunities to enhance investment, talent development, and long-term sustainability within the sector. Speakers emphasized that creating spaces where policymakers and industry figures can openly collaborate will be key to driving future growth.

A major focus of the conversation centered on how Germany can maintain competitiveness with other global esports hubs. Panelists pointed to the importance of improving training environments, supporting grassroots programs, and providing clearer pathways for aspiring professional players.
The group also examined how government and industry can work together more effectively, particularly as some esports organizations shift toward non-profit models. Representatives from G2 and the Esports Player Foundation noted that such structures could help expand player support while encouraging greater community engagement.

Diversity and inclusion were also highlighted as core elements of Berlin’s esports landscape. Participants said esports can play a meaningful role in opening opportunities for underrepresented groups, both at the amateur and professional levels.
The evening concluded with a networking reception, reinforcing what attendees described as a shared commitment between lawmakers and industry stakeholders. According to organizers, events like this reflect a growing alignment around the goal of positioning Germany as a leading force in the global gaming and esports economy.
