This is the first partnership of its kind between an Overwatch League team and a university.
Situated on an idyllic campus setting, offering over 100-degree programs, Robert Morris University-Pittsburgh, has recently entered the ranks of varsity and club esports. And, in doing so, it sought out an individual to not only coach, but one with the insight and acumen to interweave esports into the overall university mission. They found that individual in Richard Zapp.
Harrisburg University Storm took home the top honor of “Best Collegiate Esports Program” during the Tempest Awards Gala in Las Vegas, NV. The Pennsylvania powerhouse beat out other collegiate esports programs like Maryville University, UC Irvine, UC Berkley and University of Utah.
If there was any doubt about the continued exponential growth of esports among North American colleges and universities, one need only to have attended this year’s National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) conference in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to have that notion dispelled.
