Riot Games has renewed its long-running partnership with Korea’s National Heritage Administration, marking a major milestone in the company’s cultural preservation efforts. With its latest contribution of 800 million KRW, Riot’s cumulative donations to the agency have exceeded 10 billion KRW — the first time a Korean company has reached that threshold.
The announcement came during a Dec. 2 ceremony at the LCK Arena in LoL Park, where Riot Games Korea CEO Cho Hyuk-jin and National Heritage Administrator Heo Min signed the “2025 National Heritage Guardians Sponsorship Agreement.” The donation will support the repatriation of overseas cultural assets, domestic conservation programs, and improvements to palace visitor services. Representatives from the Overseas Cultural Heritage Foundation and the Cultural Heritage National Trust also attended.
Cho said the company intends to continue its long-term commitment to cultural initiatives. “Riot’s desire to be deeply rooted in Korean society and become a game company trusted by players has never changed,” he said. “We will continue responsible social contribution activities with pride in Korean cultural content.”
The Footsteps of the National Heritage Guardians Made Together with Players
Riot and the National Heritage Administration have worked together for 14 years on programs designed to “protect Korean cultural heritage together with players.” Since 2012, Riot has supported seven overseas repatriation projects, including the Buddha Triad Painting (2014), Cheokam Seonsaeng Anthology Woodblocks (2019), and the Royal Investiture Book for Crown Princess Shinjeong — designated a National Treasure in June 2023.
Additional support has gone toward conservation of palaces and royal tombs, 3D surveying of Confucian academies, preservation of modern heritage sites such as Yi Sang’s House, and youth-focused cultural education programs like the “Teemo Expedition Team.”
Heo, the National Heritage Administrator, said Riot’s consistency has made the company a standout contributor. “Over 14 years, they have supported us continuously, achieved outstanding results in overseas heritage repatriation, and cooperated across many areas of national heritage protection,” he said.
Riot Games, founded in 2006, is best known for League of Legends and its growing lineup of titles including VALORANT, Teamfight Tactics, and 2XKO. The company has expanded into broader entertainment fields through music, comics, and animation, including Arcane, which won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program in 2022.
