Yogscast Games and Save Sloth Studios today released The Royal Writ, a lane-based deckbuilding game featuring permanent card loss, on PC via Steam. Set in the beleaguered medieval realm of Aranfold, the title pits players against a marauding Bandit Leader and challenges them to restore order using strategy, sacrifice and a measure of luck.
Players begin their campaign under the rule of King Mikolt II, deploying troops represented by ants, bats, lizards and other creatures across one to three battlefield lanes. Each turn advances units toward enemy gates, while hazards and random perils can result in permanent card removals, ensuring that no two playthroughs are identical.

THE ROYAL WRIT – EPIC LANE-BASED DECKBUILDER WITH REAL CONSEQUENCES OUT NOW
The game offers two distinct campaigns: a traditional melee-focused run and a second path that introduces early gunpowder weapons and strategic obstacles. Between battles, events such as relic hunts, horse race wagers and shop visits allow players to boost their decks, though each carries its own risk-and-reward balance.
Simon Byron, managing director of Yogscast Games, said the title demands players pour their emotions into each card decision, expertly weaving together moments of triumph and sacrifice. He added that Save Sloth Studios has delivered a roguelike deckbuilder designed to evoke everything from the sting of losing a veteran card to the thrill of pulling off an impeccable run.

Charming, picture-book visuals contrast with the game’s high stakes, as each loss of a favorite card carries weight. Developers say that this permanence heightens tension and encourages careful planning. With its blend of tactical decision-making and randomized events, The Royal Writ aims to stand out in the crowded deckbuilder genre by giving players true consequences for every choice.

I write. I rap. I run. That’s pretty much it.
