GEN CoreJJ: "I think that switching lanes in order to play a certain champion is not a good choice because bottom lane is all about understanding."

Gen.G Esports (GEN) defeated Kingzone DragonX on the 2018 LCK Summer split day 25 match 1. Although the team had a disadvantage in the bottom lane champion composition, CoreJJ managed to deliver impressive performance.

The following is the interview with CoreJJ.

Q. Now the team is on a 2-game winning streak. How does it feel?

Before today’s win, we lost 2 games in a row. We thought that we had to do better. Well, I’m satisfied with the results. We did everything we can in practice. The competition is intense in this Summer split, so each and every match seem like a postseason match.

Q. Weren’t you pressured before today’s match?

It was a really important match. We did everything we can in practice. The competition is intense in this Summer split, so each and every match seem like a postseason match.

Q. How did the team win Kingzone?

We had good champion composition. It was important that we managed to withstand lane phase with those champs. Also, we knew how to defend when we were behind in the game.

Q. The team’s defense was outstanding. How did the team do that?

We knew that if we lose our jungle vision, we’d lose. That’s why we fought, it was like protecting our  Nexus; it was that important.

Q. People say that the team improves when the Worlds is nearby.

I don’t know exactly… But, Fall is coming and we are doing pretty good.

Q. Next match is against Afreeca Freecs. How will you guys prepare?

We have things to pay back against Afreeca. Also, if we manage to proceed to the postseason, we’ll probably meet them, so I’m going to think that it’s preparation.

Q. In foreign regions, other laners switch and perform in bot lane. What are your thoughts on this?

I personally don’t like it. Of course, it wouldn’t matter if the laner has a good understanding of bottom lane plays. However, I think that switching lanes in order to play a certain champion is not a good choice because bottom lane is all about understanding.

Q. Any last remarks?

If we lost today’s match, we might be at the bottom of the standings. Fortunately, we’re on a 2-game winning streak and we still have hopes of going to the top. Still, I think it’s way too early to be certain. I’m just going to think about the next match; I’ll perform well.
