The Nexon Foundation (Chairman Kim Jung-wook) announced on the 30th that it is launching 'Borderless Craft: The Winds of Thirty, Connecting Traditions' to support the work and exhibition activities of emerging traditional craft artists in celebration of the 30th anniversary of 'The Kingdom of the Winds.
Nexon is collaborating with emerging traditional artists to create craft works utilizing the IP of The Kingdom of the Winds. This initiative is part of 'BORDERLESS,' Nexon's cultural and arts support program. It carries the significance of The Kingdom of the Winds—a game inspired by Korean traditional culture that has been in service for 30 years—supporting the next generation of artists who are continuing the legacy of Korean traditional culture.
To this end, five teams were selected through a rigorous evaluation of students from the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage’s Department of Traditional Arts and Crafts, specifically targeting those with qualifications in traditional crafts, such as national heritage repair technicians, skilled craftspeople, and holders of national intangible heritage skills. The resulting traditional craft works are scheduled to be exhibited in an external venue this September.
To facilitate the artists' work, the Nexon Foundation donated ₩45 million to the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage. The donation ceremony, held at the former Joseon Savings Bank executive residence in Jung-gu, Seoul, was attended by Nexon Foundation Chairman Kim Jung-wook, Korea National University of Cultural Heritage President Kang Kyung-hwan, and other representatives from both organizations.
Nexon employees also participated in the fundraising to celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Kingdom of the Winds. On the 7th and 8th, Nexon hosted the 'Buyeo Castle Festival' in the lobby of its Pangyo headquarters, featuring an experience zone modeled after the game's Buyeo Castle and a charity market. The ₩22.18 million raised through the voluntary participation of employees will be used to support this Borderless project.
Nexon Foundation Chairman Kim Jung-wook stated, "We planned this social contribution activity to support emerging artists as a meaningful way to mark the 30th anniversary of The Kingdom of the Winds, a game born from Korean traditional culture. We will continue to support the creative activities of artists who carry on the value of traditional culture so that their work can reach a wider audience."
Meanwhile, Nexon's 'Borderless' initiative is a corporate social responsibility program that provides creators with access to Nexon's game IP, allowing them to use the games as a source of artistic inspiration and helping to ensure that the diverse new works created as a result can be enjoyed by a wider audience.
