Celebrating its 35th anniversary, the Super Robot Wars series returns with a new expansion pack featuring the legendary Ideon, widely considered the most powerful unit in the series' history.

On the 21st, BANDAI NAMCO held an online showcase titled 'Super Robot Series Information Bureau' to reveal new details about the franchise. The showcase, originally scheduled for the 20th, was postponed due to earthquake and tsunami warnings in Japan.

The highlight of the showcase was the announcement of the official expansion pack for the latest title, 'Super Robot Wars Y,' titled ~Infinite Dimension~. Following the model of Super Robot Wars T and Super Robot Wars 30, this paid DLC will include new missions, units, pilots, and a new high-difficulty 'Master' mode.

The most notable addition is the legendary Ideon. In 'Super Robot Wars Alpha 3,' Ideon was so powerful—boasting the devastating 'Ideon Sword' and the screen-clearing 'Ideon Gun'—that it could essentially clear the game on its own. Because of this, it remains one of the most iconic units in the series. However, aside from mobile appearances, Ideon has not been featured in a console title for approximately 21 years, since its last appearance in 2005.

In addition, a total of six works and eight playable units will be added, including 'Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack - Beltorchika's Children,' 'THE iDOLM@STER: XENOGLOSSIA,' the 'Star Driver: The Movie' film, 'Cross Ange: Rondo of Angel and Dragon,' and 'Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution.' The expansion will also feature 26 area missions and 15 shipboard missions, adding further narrative depth similar to previous expansions.

A new 'Master' difficulty level is also being introduced. When selected, enemies are significantly stronger, upgrade costs for player units increase, and experience point gains are reduced. During enemy phases, the use of 'Spirit Commands' is restricted, and players cannot retry after a game-over.

Following the showcase, BANDAI NAMCO released a free update on the 21st. This includes three-episode area missions for 'Revolution War Record' and 'Noah Brand Chronicles,' as well as the first mission of the expansion pack, allowing players to preview the new story content. The 'Super Robot Wars Y' expansion pack ~Infinite Dimension~ will be released on April 22, the day after the showcase.

Meanwhile, the Super Robot Wars series, which debuted on April 20, 1991, celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. BANDAI NAMCO announced via its official social media channels that it plans to host various commemorative events throughout the anniversary year.
