T1 Gumayusi: "I wasn’t that happy that two teams were going to the MSI, but ironically, we’re going as the second seed."

The grand finals of the 2023 LCK Spring Split were held on Apr. 9, with T1 and Gen.G clashing to claim the throne. The match was close, but Gen. G defeated T1 3-1. After the match, T1 bot laner Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong and head coach Bae “Bengi” Seong-woong joined the media room to talk about the loss.

What do you think about today’s loss?

Bengi: My players worked hard and played well, but I think I wasn’t as prepared as the opponent. That’s the biggest reason for the loss.

Gumayusi: Before the finals, I was confident about myself and the team, and everyone predicted us, T1, to win, but when we lose like this, I get confused. Was it because of the draft? Was it an in-game issue? Many thoughts enter my head.

The opponent had played here yesterday, and they got used to the arena before you. What do you think, as the opponent?

Bengi: They may have gotten used to the arena, but the biggest problem was that we weren’t able to deal with what they prepared. They also prepared countermeasures through their loss last time, but I wasn’t able to. That’s why we lost.

What should T1 learn from today’s loss?

Bengi: This is the fifth finals we’ve been to since last spring, and after the spring season championship, we have been ending up as the runner-up. We’ll need to think about what’s necessary for big matches. It’s important to play calmly and with ease, the bigger the match. The opponent prepared solidly, and I feel it would have been better if I had dealt with it earlier.

You’re still going to the MSI. What are your thoughts?

Bengi: Many fans think that we are strong, and that we are a team that can win the championship, but I’m sorry that we ended up as the runner-up for the fourth time. I’ll make sure that we show better performance at the MSI.

Gumayusi: When we secured MSI first among all LCK teams, I wasn’t that happy that two teams were going to the MSI, but ironically, we’re going as the second seed. I’m not too disappointed about the loss itself, but I’m disappointed that I let the fans down. Although we lost in the finals, if we meet again at MSI, I’ll make sure we have revenge.
