Faker: “I want to meet the LPL teams and fight them… The games will be interesting if they play aggressively.”

Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok delivered his determination and resolutions for the upcoming 2021 LoL World Championship. Up to now, Faker had been to five World Championships and won three of them — in 2013, 2015, and 2016. In the other two Worlds he's been to, Faker was the runner-up in 2017, and he reached the semifinals in 2019.

Faker shared his resolutions for Worlds. “It’s not a chance that comes often. I’ll do my very best and give all that I’ve got. I really want to win the championship,” he said and spoke about the key points at Worlds, “I think it’s important to research and analyze as many champions as possible.”

This year’s T1 roster consists of several rookies, and most of them don’t have as much experience. Kim “Canna” Chang-dong, Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong, and Moon “Oner” Hyeon-joon haven’t been to Worlds yet, and it’s only the second World Championship for Moon "Cuzz" Woo-chan, Park "Teddy" Jin-seong, and Ryu “Keria” Min-seok.

About this matter, Faker expressed that he should show leadership by saying, “If there are any internal non-game issues that could affect our performance, I would need to keep the team’s balance as the captain.”

T1 defeated Hanwha Life Esports in the regional finals and secured a ticket straight to the group stage. When asked about what he thought about the play-in stage where teams could gain more experience, Faker said, “It’s good to gain experience through playing there, but I believe it’ll be a big help even if we just watch other teams’ games and analyze them.”

Lastly, Faker picked the LPL region as the team he wants to meet. He said, “I want to meet the LPL teams and fight them. It’s a competitive region, and I think the games will be interesting if they play aggressively.”
