T1 Teddy: "If it’s the same five players, we can still improve from our losses, but currently, it’s gotten much more difficult."

On Mar. 6th, day 32 of the 2021 LCK Spring split came to a conclusion. In the second match of the day, T1 managed to take a 2-0 victory against KT Rolster and continue their climb in the standings. Park “Teddy” Jin-seong was named Player of the Game in game 1 for his performance on Aphelios.

After the match, Teddy joined Inven Global for a post-victory interview.

Thoughts on the victory?

While we did give double kills twice in the bot lane during game 1, I’m very happy that we took the series.

How do you reflect on today’s series against KT? What are some things that went well for the team, as well as the things that the team can improve on?

From my perspective, the two double kills in the bot lane should never have happened. In game 2, we needed to position ourselves to effectively poke with Zoe and Senna, but we got sucked in way too deep into the enemy territory.

We’re seeing new champions like Jinx and Varus in the bot lane champion pool in this patch. How do you rate some of these newest champions of the bot lane meta?

In the current meta, Jinx’s strengths come with her long range, her follow-up CC that can be chained with her support, the solo-kill/gank threat that she has in lane, and has fast waveclear. However, she’s very prone to getting caught out, and struggles to kill tanks.

For lethality Varus, apart from his low dps on Baron Nashor, I don’t really think he has that many cons. I think he’s very high up there on the tier list.

In recent days, due to the frequent changes to the starting line-up, T1 is receiving a lot of attention. What are your thoughts on the matter?

I was also part of a large roster in 2019, and at the time, even when we went on a five-match losing streak, there was barely any substitution. However, due to the frequent swaps to the starting line-up, it’s definitely gotten harder to build synergy. If it’s the same five players, we can still improve from our losses, but currently, it’s gotten much more difficult.

How do some of the other players think about the current system?

I’d be lying if I said that there isn’t any stress. We don’t talk about it, but I’m predicting they’re stressed out about it.

In your opinion, how much trust do you think has been built between the players and the coaching staff?

Putting roster issues aside, there were a lot of games where players underperformed on an individual level. I believe that players should never be dissatisfied about the roster. We all have to work our hardest and hope that we win matches.

T1’s next opponents are Gen.G. What are the key points of the match, and what are some of the things that the team will focus on for the series?

Gen.G has five great players in all five roles, and their laning and teamfighting is something that should never be underestimated. Rather than focusing on a single key point of the matchup, we’ll need to improve on all aspects of the game to beat them.
