LGD and SuperMassive stay alive in Worlds play-ins, MAD Lions and Rainbow7 eliminated

After LGD Gaming's disappointing group stage run in the 2020 World Championship play-ins, the team defeated Rainbow7 in a clean 3-0 sweep in the first series of the Knockout Stage. In the other match, SuperMassive took down the #4 LEC seed, MAD Lions, to advance as well. Both teams have to play one more best-of-5 against the opposite group's second seed, and the winners from those series will advance to the group stage along with Team Liquid and PSG Talon.

LGD finished the round-robin portion of the event with a 1-3 record, one of their losses to Rainbow7 themselves, but they corrected the course and showed somewhat cleaner gameplay in their series. Han "Peanut" Wang-ho played a much better series, finding early game success and committing more time to gank his lanes to help them get ahead of their LLA counterparts. LGD will meet Legacy Esports, the second-place team from Group A in their next series to determine who will move forward to Worlds.

SUP finished their round-robin 2-2, but lost their tiebreaker against Legacy Esports to send them in this third versus fourth place match against MAD Lions (1-3 in the round-robin). Their series went to a full five games, but SUP was in control for four of those, commanding the pace of the games and taking down a major region in the play-ins for just the second time in Worlds history. SUP will play against the CIS representative, Unicorns of Love, and the winner will move upwards to the group stage in the following week.

With that, MAD Lions, Rainbow7, INTZ, and V3 Esports have all been eliminated from Worlds.
