Misfits and Team Vitality have both been eliminated from post-season contention. In addition, because of format changes made for the 2020 League of Legends European Championship season, failure to qualify for the 2020 LEC Summer Playoffs will eliminate any chance of either team qualifying for the 2020 World Championship. 

Both Misfits and Team Vitality were eliminated at the same time on the penultimate day of the LEC Summer Split. First, Vitality faced off against FC Schalke 04, the latter of whom only needed to lose once for its season to end. However, VIT was unable to defeat Schalke, and both teams stayed within post-season contention.

In losing to Schalke, however, Vitality lost control of its post-season fate. Excel Esports was set to play against Fnatic later in the day, and a win for the side of Excel would punch its ticket to the LEC Summer Playoffs. If Fnatic was to win, however, then no teams would qualify for the post-season as a result, but both Team Vitality and Misfits would be eliminated. Fnatic demolished XL and swiftly ended the seasons of Team Vitality and Misfits.

Vitality and Misfits are the second and third teams to be eliminated in the LEC Summer Split. In the match following VIT's loss to S04, Origen lost a must-win game against SK Gaming that qualified the latter for the post-season and ended the former's season. 

MAD Lions, Rogue, G2 Esports and SK Gaming have already qualified for the LEC Summer Playoffs, and the two remaining spots will be fought for between Excel Esports, Fnatic, and FC Schalke 04 on the final day of the LEC Summer Split. For Team Vitality and Misfits, however, this marks the end of the road for the 2020 season.
