GEN Clid: "Ruler’s always doing great... If we play around him, he’ll always do well. I have absolute faith in him."

On the 23rd (KST), Gen.G swept Team Dynamics in the 2020 League of Legends Champions Summer Split. Although the first game took quite long as Team Dynamics tried to stall the game, Gen.G stepped up their gears in the second game to have an early finish. Gen.G jungler Kim “Clid” Tae-min performed well on Volibear and Lee Sin and joined Inven Global for an interview after the match.

Congrats on today’s win. How do you feel?

Although it was a clean 2-0 victory, there are still many things to improve. We’ll be back in our next match with those areas improved.

According to Ruler, you blamed yourself a lot because of your mistakes in your previous matches against T1. Did you overcome it by winning against T1 the last time?

The win did help. When playing against strong teams like T1, it’s important to reflect on oneself. I’ll always try hard to show my best.

Although Team Dynamics is lower in standings, their strikes were quite fierce. Did they play better than you predicted?

In game 1, we had a comp where we needed to dive or go in, but we weren’t able to take advantage of our strengths. I tried to get more objectives, but as much as they were also a good team, we let them recover. It was a mistake.

Team Dynamics tried to stall the game. This season, Gen.G has been trying to have fast games, but it seemed you struggled a bit.

Our champions range wasn’t that long, so we needed to benefit through dives or objectives. Even more since Aphelios and Corki get stronger as the game goes. That was regretful.

But you maintained the quick rhythm in game 2. How was the feedback?

We should have fought when we could in game 1. There were several things we gave up because of being too greedy. Those were the main topics during the feedback and it worked out well in game 2.

An aggressive draft would be important in countering those stalling compositions. Do you have simulations of those drafts within the team?

More than facing stalling comps, it’s important to fight in timings that champions are strong, or not fight when we’re comparably weak. Whichever pick it is, if the opponent’s champions are at their power spikes, we need to avoid fighting. We didn’t have those specific simulations for drafts.

Lee Sin is quite strong in the LCK, compared to spring Lee Sin’s long losing streak. Why do you think that’s happening?

During the spring, many tank champions appeared, so there weren’t many chances for Lee Sin to show off. This season, champions that aren’t as tanky appear, so it’s better for Lee Sin to make impressive plays.

Volibear was nerfed in the 10.14 patch, yet you played him today. Is it not that different?

It did affect maintaining Volibear’s health while jungling, but the difference isn’t that big. I still think he’s a viable pick.

On the other hand, Kha’Zix has been buffed. How do you think he is?

I tried playing Kha’Zix just once in solo queue, but he wasn’t that good. I don’t think he’ll be appearing in pro play just yet.

Ruler seems to be in great shape recently. As his teammate, what do you think?

Ruler’s always doing great. Even when he’s too aggressive, if we play around him, he’ll always do well. I have absolute faith in him.

Looking back at the first round, what went well and what didn’t?

There were regretful moments regarding the objectives and shotcalls. Now, a lot of that is much improved. I think that’s the difference. My form compared to the spring season isn’t that good, so I’m doing my best to bring it up.

Do you mean your mechanics when you said “form”?

Mechanics are one thing, and as much as it’s a team game, I try to play well as a team player as well as my individual plays.

There are still a lot of matches left. Which team are you aware of the most? It seems that your matches against DRX and DAMWON Gaming would be big.

Any team has its strengths and I think they all can win impressively when they do. I don’t think I can choose just one team.

Lastly, a word to the fans?

Thank you to all the fans that cheer for us, and please take care.
