[LCK Today] GEN secures 1st place to head straight to the finals, T1 waits for DRX results, and SB to play in the relegation series

On the 15th (KST), in the 2020 League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) Spring Split, Gen.G defeated kt Rolster to secure 1st place in the regular season. T1 defeated Afreeca Freecs, and DAMWON Gaming sent SANDBOX Gaming to the relegation match.

Gen.G and kt Rolster each took a win in the first two games. In Game 1, KT’s top half threw flames. Kim “SoHwan” Jun-yeong and Kim “bonO” Gi-beom dominated the top half of the Rift and scaled massively. SoHwan recorded a penta kill in a dragon teamfight and led the team. In Game 2, Gen.G had a big win in bot lane teamfight in the early game and snowballed quickly towards victory.

The champion that decided the game in Game 3 was Gwak “Bdd” Bo-seong’s Azir. Bdd had steady performance from the laning phase and he was there in all the crucial moments, carrying his team with Azir’s Emperor’s Divide. In the late game, while Gen.G was trailing, Bdd brought down the opponents with a perfect ult to turn the game around. Through this win, Gen.G secured 1st place and earned the ticket going straight to the finals.

In the second match, T1 faced Afreeca Freecs. The main damage dealers of the team had top-notch performances in Game 1, clinching the win. Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok and Park “Teddy” Jin-seong each played Akali and Varus, having a clean sheet on their KDA. Faker had a quadra kill during a teamfight.

Afreeca Freecs attempted to take the initiative in the jungle by picking Graves. Lee “Spirit” Da-yoon’s Graves seemed to inch towards victory as he took several objectives. However, T1’s concentration during teamfights was a lot better. In the mid-late game, T1 won the teamfights around the objectives and took the win. T1’s placement will be decided according to DragonX’s match tomorrow.

The third match was between DAMWON Gaming and SANDBOX Gaming. They each took a game through their mid laners’ performances. In Game 1, Yoo “FATE” Su-hyeok’s LeBlanc was all over the map, trampling the opponents and in Game 2, Heo “ShowMaker” Su’s Galio had heroic entrances in all the teamfights. Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon had his best and worst performances in the first two games as he was voted as the POG for Game 2.

The element that decided the two team’s fate was their drive. DAMWON Gaming engaged in fights confidently through their poking comp, Jayce and Zoe, which led to benefits. On the other hand, SANDBOX moved rather passively and fell as they slipped in a dragon teamfight. As of this match, SANDBOX will have to play in the promotions/relegations series along with Griffin.
