The release date for the live-action film adaptation of 'Call of Duty,' the world's best-selling shooter series, has been announced.
At approximately 2:30 a.m. KST, the official Call of Duty X account posted a teaser image featuring the franchise's logo and the release date: June 30, 2028. The premiere is still two years away.
A live-action film adaptation of Call of Duty has long been a recurring rumor in the gaming industry. Following the back-to-back success of Modern Warfare 1 and 2, speculation about a movie adaptation frequently surfaced but never materialized. In 2015, with the establishment of Activision Blizzard, more concrete plans were unveiled, yet these also failed to move beyond the rumor stage.
However, in September of last year, the film adaptation officially became a reality when it was announced that a deal had been signed with Paramount. Paramount and Activision shared the news via their official social media accounts, with the added detail that Activision would participate in the production as a creative partner.
On October 31, foreign media reported that director Peter Berg, known for 'Hancock' and 'Battleship,' would helm the project. Taylor Sheridan, writer of the 'Sicario' series and numerous TV shows, and his production partner David Glasser have also joined the team. Details regarding the film remain scarce, with only its modern-day setting confirmed.
Meanwhile, Paramount has been actively producing films based on video games. The studio is also behind the upcoming releases of 'Street Fighter,' scheduled for October, and 'The Angry Birds Movie 3,' set to premiere in December.
