Akatsuki Games has released a holiday-themed update for Kaiju No. 8 THE GAME, adding a new high-rarity playable character and launching a limited-time cooperative event. The update arrives ahead of Christmas and coincides with continued story expansion for the free-to-play action RPG based on Naoya Matsumoto’s manga series.
The centerpiece of the update is ★5 [Full-Power Christmas] Kikoru Shinomiya, who becomes playable following her appearance in Main Story Chapter 6. The seasonal version of Kikoru features a Santa-inspired outfit and introduces a gameplay role distinct from her previous incarnations. Designed as a Defender-type unit, she focuses on protecting teammates rather than dealing direct damage.
According to the developers, this version of Kikoru specializes in recovery and support. Her combat and ultimate skills allow her to restore allies’ HP, apply beneficial buffs, and remove debuffs. Through character progression, players can unlock an additional passive ability that enables her to revive one fallen ally, further emphasizing her role as a defensive cornerstone for squads.
In the narrative, Kikoru’s reluctance to participate in the in-game Christmas event contrasts with the enthusiasm of other characters, hinting at a personal memory connected to the holiday. Players can explore that storyline by progressing through Chapter 6.
KAIJU NO. 8 THE GAME
Alongside the new character, Akatsuki Games has also introduced a new ★5 weapon, the Ax-Xmas 25, which is optimized for Kikoru’s preferred weapon type, the ax. A character trailer highlighting her abilities and festive presentation has been published on the game’s official YouTube channel.
The update also marks the start of a new Raid Battle event against Kaiju No. 10 (Giant Form), scheduled to begin on Dec. 22 in Japan Standard Time. Raid Battles are large-scale cooperative events where players collectively challenge a powerful enemy, complete missions, and earn rewards based on overall progress.

Kaiju No. 8 THE GAME is co-produced by Akatsuki Games, TOHO, and Production I.G and is available on iOS, Android, and Steam. The game supports multiple languages, including English and French, and follows a free-to-play model with optional in-app purchases.
The title continues to expand alongside the growing popularity of the Kaiju No. 8 anime and manga franchise, which has seen strong global engagement since its anime debut in 2024.
