KRAFTON (CEO Kim Chang-han) has overhauled the basic training for new players in its game, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS (hereinafter PUBG), as part of the 42.2 update.

This update redesigns basic training to help newcomers adapt to the game more easily. Players can learn essential skills for real matches—including basic controls, parachuting, looting, combat, responding to the Blue Zone, driving vehicles, and reviving teammates—through 17 step-by-step chapters. A NPC acting as a partner accompanies players throughout the process, providing context-aware guidance via voice and radio messages, and is designed to help players build practical experience in an environment similar to actual combat.

Alongside the training overhaul, a 'Beginner Training Center' has been added. New missions are provided daily for 14 days, and players can earn various rewards upon completion.

The fan-favorite 'Hot Drop' mode has returned to the Arcade. This mode features fast-paced combat among multiple players in a restricted area, offering intense action. A 'Solo Deathmatch' mode, which provides a different experience from the standard Battle Royale, is also being added. Players earn points based on eliminations and damage dealt, allowing for a faster-paced combat experience. Hot Drop will be available until July 29, and Solo Deathmatch will run for a limited time from July 29 to August 12.

Communication features between teammates have also been improved. The radio message system has been revamped into an icon-based radial menu, allowing for faster delivery of context-appropriate messages. Additionally, item-specific markers and a preview feature have been implemented to enhance the convenience of sharing information. The World Map has been improved with the addition of Map, Mission, and Match Logs tabs, allowing players to check necessary information on a single screen.
