Riot Games has revealed new details about Unleashed, the third set for Riftbound: The League of Legends Trading Card Game, introducing additional champions, gameplay mechanics, and a new rarity tier ahead of its release later this year.

According to the developer update, Unleashed will include more than 220 cards and more than 30 alternate-art versions, expanding the physical card game with new strategies centered on timing and resource management. The set launches first in China on April 10, followed by an English release on May 8.

The expansion introduces four new Champion Legends drawn from the League of Legends universe: Kha’Zix, Lillia, Diana, and Ivern. Each champion is designed to interact with the set’s new mechanics and tokens, which Riot says are intended to reward players who wait for the right moment before committing powerful plays.

Riot also showcased the upcoming cards and gameplay systems during a preview match featuring content creators Disguised Toast, Scarra, Yvonne, and Sydeon. The showcase highlighted several new units, spells, and keywords debuting in the set.

Power strikes from the shadows in Riftbound: Unleashed, bringing new Legends, mechanics, and a new rarity when the set launches in China on April 10 and English on May 8

Among the headline additions are three gameplay mechanics: Ambush, XP, and Hunt. Cards with Ambush can be played reactively during combat if a player already controls units on the battlefield, allowing reinforcements to arrive mid-conflict. The XP system introduces a new resource that players accumulate and spend to gain advantages, with certain cards increasing in strength depending on how much XP has been earned. Hunt cards generate XP when they are used to conquer or hold battlefields.

Unleashed also introduces several token types, including Baron Pit, which enters play when Baron Nashor is summoned. Additional tokens include Birds equipped with Deflect, Reflections that copy another card already in play, and temporary Sprites that are removed at the start of the player’s next Beginning phase.

Riot confirmed the arrival of “Ultimate Rarity,” a new Overnumbered card tier appearing in less than 1% of packs. The set’s first Ultimate Rare card will feature Baron Nashor.

Players will have early opportunities to try the new cards through the Unleashed Pre-Rift sealed tournament events at local game stores, starting April 3 in China and May 1 for the English release. Competitive play will continue through the Summoner Skirmish program, with tournament windows scheduled to open May 25 and June 22.

Developed by Riot Games and published in partnership with UVS Games, Riftbound adapts the champions and lore of League of Legends into a physical trading card game with organized play ranging from local store events to regional qualifiers.
