HongCoNo on BlizzCon group stages & his guest casting experience

Both in and out of the Nexus, the opening week of the 2016 Heroes of the Storm Fall Championship offered a great amount of entertainment for Korean fans.

In-game, the two regional representatives - MVP Black & Ballistix - steamrolled over their group stage competitors in both Phase 1 and 2. Out of game, the KR stream was spiced up considerably thanks to a number of guests brought onto the cast, including renowned Heroes streamer / cartoonist Malnyun Lee, MVP Miracle Crazymoving, and Tempo Storm HongCoNo.

Brimming with energy even after two marathon days on the desk, Daeheong "HongCoNo" Lee was happy to have a short chat with me about his guest casting experience.

Do you think your guest appearance went well?

I knew I was great at games, but apparently I'm also great at casting. At this point I'm pretty sure I'm great at everything. [explodes with laughter] Wait, are you going to put this in the interview? Please don't. You think the readers will enjoy it? Well okay then... [keeps laughing]

Is a commentator's viewpoint hugely different from a viewer's or a player's?

Not really, no. I didn't experience the game in an entirely new way, or anything like that.

What were you mainly going for on the cast?

I couldn't understand many of the plays that were being made by the foreign teams, so tried to focus on trying to explain why a player or a team might have made a certain decision. Honestly, a lot of it was frustrating to watch, especially when compared to my experiences viewing Korean tournaments. And I once again realized how much I had wanted to go to BlizzCon.

How was casting with OPrime, the most experienced community caster in Korea?

I think OPrime and I could have delivered a great analytical cast if we were duo casting. OPrime has a lot of knowledge, and I felt he didn't get to share enough of it on the days he was on.

How did you like casting? Would you jump at another casting opportunity?

As long as I get to cast good teams' games, such as MVP Black, Dignitas, Fnatic, and Ballistix, I would love to jump on again. I had a lot of fun and also learned a lot.

Any players or teams (apart from Tempo Storm) you would have liked to see at BlizzCon?

Misfits! I would have enjoyed the cast even more had they been playing.
