The HCT World Championship is the culmination of a one-year circuit in which professional Hearthstone players earn points through worldwide competition. By competing at Playoff events, Tour Stops and seasonal championships, sixteen players with the most circuit points will be invited to compete in Taipei for a prize pool of $1 million.

The HCT World Championship location was first announced at the 2018 Hearthstone All-Star Invitational, which took place in Taipei last week. Taiwan was able to keep its All-Star title through an incredible performance from free agent Wu "BloodTrail" Zong-Chang.

Casper "Hunterace" Notto, the top player on InvenGlobal's 2018 Summer power rankings, will be attending HCT World Championship in Taipei.

Blizzard announced in November that a new competitive system would be replacing HCT in the future of Hearthstone esports.  The final stop of the Hearthstone Championship Tour has yet to announce who will be competing, but expect to see the top level of professional Hearthstone play throughout the HCT's swan song.
