Shanghai Dragons flew to Atlanta favored to qualify for playoffs. NYXL, despite not having clinched a spot, was considered a forgone conclusion given its 5-0 record and opening matchup against the Florida Mayhem. Things were slightly more complicated for the Dragons. At 4-1, if Shanghai was able to defeat Guangzhou Charge on Saturday evening, both Charge and Philadelphia Fusion would be eliminated from the Stage 3 Playoffs, and the Dragons would secure the final spot.

Fusion disposed of Washington Justice 3-1, and hoped for the unlikely result of Charge win over Shanghai.  Charge delivered, surprising the Dragons and taking the series in a 3-1 victory. While Charge was eliminated the moment Philadelphia defeated the Washington Justice, it gave the Fusion an opportunity to face off against Shanghai Dragons on Sunday morning. Winner of the match would go to playoffs. Loser would go home.

Shanghai Dragons utilized the newly popular Bunker Comp to great effect. Yang "DDing" Jin-hyeok had several tide turning ultimates on Pharah. Not to be outdone, Bae "diem" Min-seong's outclassing of Lee "Carpe" Jae-hyeok on Widowmaker was an awe-inspiring performance integral to the Dragons' second Stage Playoff berth. Shanghai Dragons defeated Philadelphia Fusion 3-1.
