If you missed the big news in gaming, Bernie Sanders, the 77-year old American politician most famous for his 2016 and continued Democratic bid for President of the United States, is now on Twitch.tv.

The channel can be found at https://www.twitch.tv/bernie_sanders under the "Just Chatting" section (a comical understatement considering Sander's presence on Twitch is an effort to gain votes in order to lead the most powerful nation on the planet) and is currently advertising a pre-debate show scheduled to start at 8:20 PM EST.

As you might expect, despite being offline and showcasing no content, the channels Twitch chat is already actively meme'ing the entire situation. Some people chat in earnest, others are hell-bent on causing chaos -- all the usual when politics enters any part of mainstream culture.

But, perhaps one of the most amusing aspects is the ability for Twitch users to gift subs to the Bernie Sanders Twitch account.  Amusingly, the popular variety streamer, Smash Bros. enthusiast, and professional speed runner Mychal Ramon "Trihex" Jefferson was talking on his stream how he looks forward to the Bernie Sanders stream and even joked about how cool a Bernie Sanders Discord might be.

And then, to his momentary shock, Bernie_Sanders sub'd to his Twitch channel:

Now, the Sanders account didn't manually subscribe to Trihex but, for a brief moment, it appeared that way. Now that the presidential hopeful has entered the world of Twitch, the reality of gifted subs being used as a joke or even possibly a political message isn't completely out of the question.

For now, it is one more sub for Trihex and an amusing moment brought to Twitch thanks to whomever it is working for Bernie Sanders is in charge of youth outreach. Perhaps more politicians will decide that gamers are a big enough demographic that warrants speaking to.

Considering the publicity it has already created, we might very well see Sanders stream gameplay in earnest one day. A long shot, but laughably plausible nowadays.
