On the 18th of August (KST) Griffin defeated Afreeca Freecs 3:2 in the 2018 LCK Summer split playoffs round 2. With this victory, Griffin will face kt Rolster in the finals.

In game 1, Griffin had the early advantage. With Gnar-Ryze on their side, they started to split push Afreeca’s sides. Although Kiin’s Gangplank hit his power spikes, it was tough for him to go against Griffin alone. Griffin managed to get the Elder Drake and Baron; they soon closed down game 1.

Afreeca Freecs fought back in game 2. Griffin did have the early-game advantage, but it was hard to stop Afreeca’s Quinn and Zoe. With these two champions dominating the game, Kiin managed to deliver a series of solo-kills on his Quinn. Also, Kuro showed-off some of his skills on Zoe. In the mid/late game, Afreeca had a clear advantage. They snowballed gradually and closed down the game.

In game 3, Spirit’s early-game jungle routes were magnificent. Using one of his past signature champion, Lee Sin, he dominated the matchup against Olaf. Although he did not gain kills, his routes indeed helped Afreeca’s laners. With Kiin’s Kennan destroying the top matchup, Afreeca did a 1-3-1 split push and shook Griffin. They won game 3.

There were some series of kills in the early phase of game 4. Although both teams secured a lot of kills, Afreeca’s kills were mostly focused on Spirit. On the other hand, Girffin’s laners evenly gained some kills. Eventually, Griffin’s champions hit their power spikes first. With Griffin showing off their signature teamfight abilities, they started to dominate the game.

The series went to game 5. The last set was highly competitive in its early phase. Afreeca Freecs gained a slight advantage by showing better macro and teamfight abilities. However, Griffin again turned the tables by delivering unbelievable fighting abilities in the late game. The highlight of the series was indeed when Chovy’s Orianna landed her ultimate near the Baron. This killed 3 of the Afreeca Freecs players and Griffin destroyed the Nexus.
