Further details on Overwatch League 2018 announced- a total $3.5 million prize pool for the season

 

Details on Overwatch League 2018 has been announced along with the schedule for the preseason event taking place in December on the official Overwatch League website.


The preseason event in which all 12 teams will participate in the live exhibition matches will be held at the Blizzard Arena Los Angeles from December 6th to 9th. The regular season will begin on January 10th, 2018.


The regular season is divided into four stages of 5 weeks each, and a 10-day break is given before the new stage begins. The official matches will be played at Blizzard Arena LA from every Wednesdays to Saturdays during a stage.

Stage 1
: January 10 - February 10
Stage 2: February 21 - March 24
Stage 3: April 4 - May 5
Stage 4: May 16 - June 16

Two title matches will be held on the last Saturday of each stage, and the top 3 teams by standing during that stage will have a seeded playoff and each team will receive 125,000$ in total as a performance bonus.


The team’s wins and losses during the stage will affect the full season records and postseason seeding, but the title matches played at the end of each stage will not be counted. Each team will be rewarded performance bonus based on their full-season record when the regular season ends.


The 1st place in title matches for each stage will get $100,000, 2nd place $25,000, and $500,000 in total will be rewarded over the four stages in 2018. The regular season placement bonus is $1.3 million in total which will be given out to teams according to their placements.The World Champion of the 6 teams that proceed to the championship playoffs will be given $1 million, and the runner-up will be given $400,000; a total of $1.7million bonuses will be split among the 6 teams according to their placements.

Also, the 12 teams will be grouped into two divisions, the Pacific Division and the Atlantic Division, with 6 teams in each. The Pacific Division includes Dallas Fuel, Los Angeles Gladiators, Los Angeles Valiant, San Francisco Shock, Seoul Dynasty, and Shanghai Dragons, while the Atlantic Division includes Boston Uprising, Florida Mayhem, Houston Outlaws, London Spitfire, New York Excelsior, and Philadelphia Fusion.


Each team will play 40 games during the regular season, and 20 games of these will be played within its division and the rest will be played against teams in other division. These divisions will influence postseason seeding, from which the top team in each division will qualify for the postseason as well as be automatically seeded to the championship playoffs.
