An announcement regarding the sale of the Collector's Edition for the new God of War title, 'God of War Laufey', has sparked controversy among gamers after including a statement that the game is not included.
On the 14th, publisher Sony and developer Santa Monica Studio posted an announcement on their official blog stating that sales for the God of War Laufey Collector's Edition would begin. The price is £129.99, which converts to approximately 230,000 won. Limited to one per person, the edition includes a statue of the protagonist Faye, a 51-card Oracle Deck, and a mini artbook.
The main point of controversy was the bold statement displayed at the top of the announcement and in the image, reading "God of War Laufey game sold separately." As Collector's Editions have traditionally included the main game, reactions expressing disappointment were widespread under the announcement posted on X.
Sony is not the first to make such a move. Rockstar Games previously unveiled the Vice City Edition, a Collector's Edition for GTA6, which also did not include the base game. With a growing number of Collector's Editions excluding the game itself, attention is focused on where this industry trend is headed.
