Santa Monica Studio's new title 'God of War Laufey' will launch on PS5 on February 16, 2027. Sony Interactive Entertainment began pre-orders for the game on the 29th via the PlayStation Store and official retailers, while revealing details on Faye's new combat style and the contents of each edition.
The core highlight newly introduced this time is the 'Serpent's Bow,' a magical weapon used by Faye. Designed as a weapon that shapeshifts like a snake, it seamlessly connects melee attacks with ranged shots. The aiming mechanics are also split into two modes depending on the situation.
Under 'Full Aim,' activated by holding the aim trigger all the way down, range and precision are increased. Players can attack specific body parts of enemies to disrupt their movement or attacks, and by charging the bow, up to 5 arrows can be nocked and fired at once. Notably, a combo method was showcased where players follow up on enemies launched into the air using Phranque's ability.
Conversely, 'Quick Aim,' activated by pressing the trigger halfway, focuses on rapidly firing arrows at close range while maintaining mobility. Players can utilize the bow not merely as a ranged weapon, but as part of a combo—unleashing continuous shots on airborne enemies or seamlessly switching to other weapons and abilities. Different arrow types, including rapid-fire, explosive, and multi-target attacks, are also provided.
'Bow Scales,' a weapon customization element, were also revealed. Depending on the scales, not only the bow's appearance but also its unique perks change, and separate skills can be unlocked to enhance the bow's abilities. In addition, Faye can customize her combat style by combining armor, 'Blades' applied to her sword, 'Scales' applied to the Serpent's Bow, and 'Catalysts'—relics with distinct effects.
Pre-order customers will receive the 'Last Wish Armor Set,' the cosmetic item 'Phranque Golden Leaves Appearance,' and an in-game resource pack. Some items can also be unlocked in-game through story progression.
The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the 'Dark Alchemy Armor Set,' along with a blade, bow scales, a catalyst, and an in-game resource pack. It also includes a digital mini artbook and the official digital soundtrack.
'God of War Laufey' is scheduled to release on PS5 on February 16, 2027.
