To mark the 6th anniversary of the open-world RPG Genshin Impact, HoYoverse Korea opened the Genshin Impact Forest in Yanghwa Hangang Park, Seoul, created through the walking participation of 530,000 people and tree-planting volunteer work by around 100 participants. The walking campaign recorded 6.3 billion steps, and 4,010 trees were planted on site.
HoYoverse Korea spearheaded the forest creation in partnership with Karrot, Smilegate Hope Studio, and others. Connecting players' everyday walking, donations, and volunteer activities into a green space, the company described it as the first corporate forest built by a gaming company in Hangang Park.
A total of 530,000 people participated in "The Neighborhood Walk That the Forest Will Remember," run in collaboration with Karrot. Surpassing the initial goal of 100 million steps, the campaign recorded 6.3 billion steps, achieving a carbon dioxide emission reduction effect of approximately 616 tons, according to the company.
Around 100 players participated in the tree-planting volunteer sessions held over two days on the 13th and 20th. Participants planted a total of 4,010 trees and plants—including bridal wreath spiraea, Japanese kerria, plum trees, and Cornelian cherry—at Yanghwa Hangang Park.
The established Genshin Impact Forest is expected to absorb approximately 2,670 kg (2.67 tons) of carbon dioxide annually. It will operate as a green space within Yanghwa Hangang Park that anyone can freely visit.
Donations from the "Goods FUNding Where the Forest Grows" campaign, conducted with Smilegate Hope Studio, will also be used for separate plant-planting activities aimed at carbon reduction.
A commemorative event celebrating the opening of the Genshin Impact Forest is also underway. Participants who post photos taken at the forest or congratulatory videos on social media with designated hashtags by October 25 will be entered into a draw to win autographed boards from Genshin Impact voice actors, Genesis Crystals, postcard sets, and other rewards.
The official Genshin Impact Naver Cafe is collecting congratulatory messages until October 4. Large plushies from the "Aranara" series will be awarded via a draw, with further details available on the official cafe.
