The film Watts is set to direct is the first installment in a new 'Star Wars' trilogy written by Simon Kinberg. Kinberg previously participated in writing and producing the 'X-Men' series, and it was revealed that he has been developing a new 'Star Wars' trilogy since 2024.
This trilogy is expected to continue the existing Skywalker Saga, and the possibility of Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, reappearing in the new project is also being discussed. However, Disney has not officially greenlit the trilogy, and Lucasfilm has not issued a separate statement regarding Jon Watts joining as director.
