The South Korean ‘Pokémon UNITE’ national team advanced to the semifinals at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, securing at least a bronze medal.
On September 27, South Korea defeated Singapore 2-1 in the ‘Pokémon UNITE’ quarterfinals held at Aichi Sky Expo in Japan. After a three-set battle, they secured their spot in the semifinals.
For this tournament, the South Korean squad consists of Kim Jae-young, Park Seong-soon, Lee Ji-hwan, Cho Min-hyuk, and Jin Su-bin. Born in 2008, Park Seong-soon and Cho Min-hyuk are the youngest members of the team. Jin Su-bin, who previously competed as a professional player in another MOBA title, doubled as a player and ban/pick coach. The players prepared for the tournament by analyzing their opponents and coordinating their strategies.
While the official goal before the tournament was a silver medal, the players set their sights on gold. Team captain Kim Jae-young previously expressed his determination to challenge for gold, building on the confidence gained from practice match victories.
Following a gold medal in fighting games on September 26, the South Korean esports national team secured another medal in ‘Pokémon UNITE’. Having passed the quarterfinals, South Korea will now aim for a spot in the finals in the upcoming semifinal match.
