Today (Sept. 25), Cygames released Episode 4 of 'Road to WGP', a documentary series themed around qualifying for the World Grand Prix in its digital card game Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond.
'Road to WGP' is a documentary following former Hearthstone pro DawN and Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG Korea Championship 2021 winner Karami as they strive to qualify for Shadowverse World Grand Prix 2026. Across Episodes 1 and 2, the duo competed in the streamer tournament Streamer Clash, where DawN was eliminated in the qualifiers while Karami finished in 4th place. Episode 3 brought in Shadowverse pro player ReunKyo, who provided 25 minutes of detailed feedback ranging from deck building to turn-by-turn analysis.
In Episode 4, released today, the location moved to a café near a stream in Namhansanseong, where ReunKyo played directly against DawN and Karami while offering real-time feedback. The first match against DawN was a Nemesis mirror match. DawN initially seemed to hold an advantage by aggressively developing his board in the early turns, but ReunKyo took control of the board and won after clearing DawN's followers using Weapon of Superiority and evolution. Regarding DawN's play, ReunKyo noted that while his deck was fine, his decision-making had room for improvement, such as playing Pursuit Declaration, Mew unexpectedly on turn 4. The following match against Karami pitted Dragoncraft against Nemesis. Playing Dragoncraft, Karami steadily built up his position in the early game and gained a slight lead by clearing the board with an evolved Wilnas. However, after Wilnas was removed, Karami ran out of late-game firepower and ultimately surrendered.
After a quick feedback session and a meal, the three held a Joker-drawing game to test their luck, with the loser having to plunge into the mountain stream. Played like Indian Poker—where players hold their cards to their foreheads and deduce their own hand and the deck by looking at their opponent's cards—none of the cast members drew a Joker, resulting in everyone plunging into the stream together. A teaser at the end of the episode revealed another pro player brought on by ReunKyo, raising curiosity. While the player's face was not shown, their uniform suggested they belong to the famous Japanese esports team DetonatioN FocusMe (DFM).
Meanwhile, Shadowverse World Grand Prix 2026 is set to take place in Japan this December, while Shadowverse Korea Open 2026 Season 2, which awards a berth for the Korean representative, is scheduled for October.
