Riot Games has postponed the launch of Team Voice in League of Legends, pushing back a feature that was due to arrive in North America and Oceania next patch.
The update came in the Patch 26.19 notes, published on September 22nd. Team Voice had originally been announced for Patch 26.20, but Riot has now pulled it from that update and has not given a new release window.
What is Team Voice?
League of Legends already has voice chat, but it only works for pre-made parties (groups of friends who join a match together). Team Voice would expand this so that every player on a team can talk to each other, including players matched with strangers.
According to the patch notes, Riot made the decision "after extensive testing" and wants to make sure the feature hits "the quality bar you deserve for the experience." Riot said it does not have a target patch yet. It added that it is working through the remaining issues as quickly as it can, acknowledging that Team Voice is a long-awaited feature that it needs "to get right."
The existing party voice chat is unaffected by the delay.
What else is in Patch 26.19?
The rest of the update focuses on preparing the game for the League of Legends World Championship (Worlds), which will be played on Patch 26.20. Riot buffed several champions it sees as potential fringe picks for the tournament, including Aatrox, Aphelios and Lillia, while nerfing popular junglers Nocturne and Vi. Top laners also got a buff to Teleport, a summoner spell that lets players travel across the map, with Riot saying the role had become slightly weak.
League Classic, the mode that brings back older versions of the game, added four champions, headlined by the pre-rework version of Graves that was played between 2011 and 2015. Fizz, Nami and Nautilus also joined the mode.
Four new skins (Coven Janna, Coven Mel, Old God Anivia and Old God Urgot) will be available from September 23rd.
