Kakao Games Corp. has wrapped up a live showcase demonstration for World of Dokkaebi, a 2.5D MMORPG developed by Supercat. Character name reservations will begin at 8 PM on September 22, aiming for an official launch on October 8 at 11 AM.
On the first day of character name reservations, players can register names between 1 and 8 characters long during the four-hour window from 8 PM to midnight. Single-character names such as "Hae" (Sun), "Dal" (Moon), and "Byeol" (Star) are also permitted. From 11 AM on September 23 until the event ends, players can reserve names between 2 and 8 characters long, excluding single-character names.
The showcase held on September 18 was hosted by Caster Lena, with Supercat Producer Park Sung-jun, Director Jang Soo-min, and Kakao Games Head of Business Cha Myeong-soo in attendance. The panelists played the game live, answered pre-submitted questions as well as real-time Q&A, and introduced key game features.
During the demonstration, details regarding the in-game economy structure and its implementation direction were also revealed. Players can earn the in-game currency "Gold" through field bosses, raids, and guild (Munpa) content, which can be used to acquire growth items, cosmetic outfits, and mounts. Outfits and mounts do not provide stats related to character progression, maintaining a clear separation between growth and cosmetic customization elements.
Actor Park Ji-hoon, the game's promotional model, also played the game on stage. Park shared his thoughts on the characters, convenient gameplay features, and the satisfying combat feedback that contrasts with its visual style, while personally utilizing dodge mechanics and skills during a raid.
According to Kakao Games, World of Dokkaebi is being developed based on the IP (Intellectual Property) of Myeolgwisudojeon, a popular Naver web novel and webtoon. The title combines 2D pixel characters with 3D backgrounds, applying pixel art that reflects traditional Korean sentiments, and was developed in collaboration with REDICE Studio, the production company behind Solo Leveling.
Kakao Games plans to continue finalizing development and service preparations leading up to the official launch.
